The Linux Foundation offers a discounted Cloud Engineer Bootcamp


The Linux Foundation has set up a pump to help software designers get cloud technology certification with a self-tapping boot disk and discount pricing.

Last week, LF announced the availability of the Cloud Engineer Bootcamp, the first-ever training bootcamp. With this new offering, people can transition from a complete IT beginner to a certified cloud technician in just six months.

At $ 599, the cost of the training program is much lower than at similar startup camps, which typically cost $ 999. The starting price will take effect on June 17.

The cloud-based startup camera is a great way for IT workers to move into a new, highly sought-after career in a structured, easily accessible format, according to the foundation.

“We have been considering ways to increase the talent base to meet existing demand and also prepare for future waves as cloud deployment continues to accelerate in the coming years,” he told LinuxInsider.

Necessary solution
LF’s all-time cloud school for engineers is a workable approach to solving cloud technology competencies, said Thomas Hatch, technical director at SaltStack.

“The current vacuum of Linux cloud engineers is significant, and demand is also growing rapidly,” he told LinuxInsider.

While several existing programs and boot camps are available, the Linux Foundation should be able to deliver a more credible and robust program, and the price is amazing, Hatch said.

He added that the project is well in line with the goals of the Linux Foundation.

"Quite a few cloud service providers, technical schools, and universities have offered such startup camps. Therefore, there are very few, if any, that are as authoritative and affordable as this Linux Foundation program," Hatch continued.

Companies are adopting cloud technology almost exponentially, said Wei Lien Dang, StackRox’s chief strategy officer.

This rapid movement makes a Linux-based program a particularly attractive starting point for cloud technology because Linux serves as the foundation for so many cloud technologies, he pointed out.

“Cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft and Google also provide great resources for learning, but these programs tend to be specific to their own platforms and ecosystems,” Dang told LinuxInsider.

Engineers could consider offers from these providers on top of the Linux Foundation program, he suggested as the next step before continuing to specialize further.

Curriculum details
The Linux Foundation Cloud Engineer Bootcamp package bundles self-accelerating e-learning courses with certification exams and dedicated instructor support for a comprehensive training program that starts on Linux at the operating system layer.

The curriculum then moves up the stack and covers DevOps, cloud, tanks, and more.

The following special courses and exams are included:

- Linux Administration Basics (LFS201)
- Linux Networking and Management (LFS211)
- Basics of Containers (LFS253)
- DevOps and SRE Criteria: Implementing Continuous Delivery (LFS261)
- Kubernetes Basics (LFS258)
- Linux Foundation Certified Administrator Exam (LFCS)
All of them are exported online.

Participants will have access to a start-up campaign-specific online forum to interact with other students and instructors. There are also virtual offices in real time with course instructors five days a week.

Participants will have access to reading, videos, and lab exercises in simulated real-world environments. They also have the opportunity to receive support from Linux Foundation Training Instructors who helped develop the courses. The instructors are followed by an interactive forum.

“This allows them to discuss the progress of the program, ask about specific topics, and even get advice on career paths,” Seepersad said.

Those who spend 15-20 hours a week on course work are expected to prepare a start-up camp in about six months. Upon completion, participants will receive tokens for the LFCS and CKA certification test, as well as a record of completing the entire bootcamp. Potential employers can verify the ID independently at any time.

Meeting multiple needs
Bootcamp “will help close the talent gap and ensure adequate staffing for companies looking for cloud services,” Seepersad said.

More engineers are looking for non-traditional forms of training - such as online courses and start-up camps - that are reliable and provide hands-on experience, said Kim McMahon, director of marketing for the Cloud Native Computing Foundation.

“Cloud Engineer Bootcamp is the perfect way to prove their knowledge of the work of Kubernetes while advancing their careers in cloud-based and open source communities,” he said.

Broadband based cloud service
While much of the Foundation’s cloud technology startup campaign course focuses on Linux, it also offers a cross-platform for handling other cloud platforms. Like all LF trainings, the course is vendor-neutral, Seepeersad pointed out.

"Azure is by far one of the largest cloud providers in the world, and Microsoft itself revealed last year that most of the Azure manifestations are Linux. , "he explained.

Engineers can choose from a number of existing cloud technology certification programs, StackRox’s Dang pointed out - but nothing adds the implicit value that the Linux Foundation supports it.

Cross-training vs. platform-specific expertise
Cloud providers also offer a wealth of training opportunities for different roles, at different levels and in different formats, to help people put at home certain skills they need to be a cloud user in today’s marketplace, Dang explained.

For example, AWS has one of the longest-running programs that provides support from basic learning to deep specialization. The programs will help support users who are well-versed and competent to use the services on their platforms and within their ecosystems, he said.

Each cloud provider provides similar resources, specifically for that cloud platform. AWS was an early migrant that created a strong curriculum for training and certification.

Other cloud providers have followed suit. If engineers want to know a particular cloud platform, they need to understand the complex details of those specific platforms and environments that would best be obtained from the provider itself, Dang suggested.

Free Jenkins training
On Monday, the Linux Foundation and the Continuous Delivery Foundation announced a new, completely free training course to teach the basics of continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI / CD). The course includes a detailed understanding of the role of Jenkins during the software development lifecycle.

The course, Introduction to Jenkins, focuses on a leading open source automation server. It provides information on how to install a Jenkins server, how to build software with it, how to manage third-party integrations / extensions, and how to scale and protect Jenkins.

Course makers will get an idea of ​​what they can do to improve their CI / CD skills.
